The Inner Voice:

An Exhibition of Paintings by Louise Gardam

‘The Intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift.’

— ALBERT EINSTEIN

Louise Gardam paints abstract paintings, without any preparatory sketches. The artist draws from her subconscious — what she describes as the ‘meditative inner voice’. Gardam makes her own handmade Gesso and uses Oils, Acrylics, Enamel and the technique of Sgraffito. She also combines strong gestural brushstrokes with tiny, labour intensive mark-making, giving the paintings a sense of both freedom and restraint. The resulting works are both delicate and dynamic, inviting the viewer on their own inner journey.
